A few weeks ago I told people that I’m doing a leadership development workshop for a group that is not my usual audience. The oldest person in the crowd will be no more than eleven years old. The youngest? Likely eight. Yup, it’s a leadership workshop for elected leaders at a local primary school.
The words that you use shape your experiences, and there are some words and phrases that hold you back. They’re like handcuffs, keeping you right where you are; dreaming big and playing small. I’ll bet you know a lot of them, and if we were in a workshop together, we could cover an entire whiteboard in sixty seconds flat.
Leadership is about teamwork, inspiration, vision, and innovation (throw in your favorite leadership buzzword or trait here). What the experts don’t tell you is that to find your leadership, you also have to learn to be alone.
