The grocery store was packed, and every single shopper was miserable. Aisles were slow going, favorite brands were sold out and the checkout lines looked like they were miles long. It was a scene that’s probably familiar to anyone who has ever done their grocery shopping on the weekend.
I could not wait for vacation! Although I struggle to let go of my day to day on most holidays, I was longing for time to unwind, relax, and leave work and stress behind – if I couldn’t do it in Fiji, it was never going to happen. However, sitting in a lounge chair was not the panacea I expected. I was far from in the moment… In fact, I was in awe of the moment. Immediately I knew that my choice was to either experience this holiday as an outsider or to step into my experience by practicing some mindfulness basics.
Have you ever noticed people in passing and it’s as if your mind takes a snapshot? You may not know them, but for some reason, their image sticks with you and becomes intertwined with the stories of your life. What’s fascinating, is that these flashing images, these moments only seen in your mind’s eye, aren’t static. You grow, your world-view changes and evolves and as you change your life, you change the story.
