Like you, I’m looking ahead to 2014… Making plans, setting goals, looking forward. I’m also looking in the rearview mirror to learn from the year that’s passed and really digging into some ah-ha moments that would otherwise pass me by (or I’d just choose to ignore).
As I was thinking about the leaps ahead I was suddenly struck by a memory from a few weeks ago when my daughter went to the local radio station to sing on the air with her school choir. I beamed at her the whole time and I snapped tons of pictures. I started my focus on her sweet, happy face, backed up and got the choir in the shot, went a little further out and took some with the director in the picture and then I took a panoramic shot. It’s all of those photos together that tell the full story.
How does that tale relate to my top blog posts of 2013? There’s a reason that these were the top ten and represent an array of content from the year. When you and I get ready to make the leap it’s not enough to zone in on where we want to go, or to solely focus on the team of people by our side, or to include a mentor or coach… it’s the bigger picture, the panorama, that pulls it all together and gives clarity to the other pieces. Zoom in, zoom out, landscape, focus; it’s all a part of the process.
I wasn’t super scientific as I came up with this list other than to go to Google analytics and see which had the most unique page views over the past 12 months. Some of my favorites made the list and others didn’t. Here they are… starting with Number One…
Number One: The Most Powerful Question a Leader Can Ask
Number Two: 6 Keys to the Art of Saying No
Number Three: The One HR Truth Every Leader Needs to Know
Number Four: Leadership Challenge: Responsibility Without Authority
Number Five: 4 Biggest Leadership Assumptions to Avoid
Number Six: What’s Your Leadership Stop Start Continue?
Number Seven: I Want Off This Hamster Wheel
Number Eight: 3 Wishes Every Great Leader Should Have on Their List
Number Nine: Leadership Wisdom From My Daughter
Number Ten: Lose the Big Head and Go on the Leadership Diet
Thank you for making it a great year and look forward to sharing, growing and leaping more with you in 2014!

Hi Alli, great analogy from your taking pictures of your daughter’s performance to remind us on what to review, to zoom in and out on. It really is all about perspective, isn’t it? I’m grateful to have connected with you via our blogs and learning from your perspective even though thousands of miles and an ocean is between us. Looking forward to more in 2014, Alli!

You take your readers up close with shots when we need it, and then panoramic views when the big picture is required.
